There’s one thing that travelling solo does do… it increases your chance of getting out!
As I said in the earlier post, I was stuck overnight in the Atlanta airport. Enjoyed a very fun conversation til around 2 in the morning with one of my fellow High Class Hitchhikers before we hunkered down on benches to catch a few winks. The 1st flight out in the morning was looking really full, though. I was the 3rd to last on the list, so I didn’t have much hope of getting out on that flight. It was seriously down to the wire. The gate attendants were only calling standby passenger names ONCE before moving on to the next person. I’m watching the list as they were working their way through the list. Most of the people ahead of me were in groups of 2 or more. The last solo person got called. She jumped up. I’m waiting to see if there are any more seats left. There’s only one left. Now it comes down to willingness to split the group. Yes? No? Yes? NO! My name got called. I jumped up and ran to the gate. They warned me that they needed to visually check to be sure there was actually a seat for me. There was, hooray, which meant… I got on the 1st flight out. This was an extremely good thing, because I was supposed to be taking a friend from England up to Yellowstone for three days, starting that day.
Anyway, the tip of the day I have for you is… if you’re flying as a group, it may be a good idea to split up and travel alone.
